Sawyer Enjoys Scoring Spree

This could get habit-forming.

Duck tough guy Kevin Sawyer scored another goal Sunday night in a 4-4 tie with Florida. It was his second in a week and the third of his career.

“You don’t want to do too much, then they expect too much the following year,” Sawyer joked after the game.

Sawyer created his own opportunity. A few minutes earlier he had suckered Florida’s Peter Worrell into taking a penalty.

With the lines jumbled after the power play, Sawyer found himself on ice with Steve Rucchin and Patric Kjellberg, two-thirds of the Ducks’ top line.

Kjellberg went into the Panther zone and fired a backhander that Jani Hurme saved. The rebound came right to Sawyer.

“Not much I can say about that,” Sawyer said. “The rebound nice and juicy, all I had to do is shoot it in.”

So is Paul Kariya’s job on the top line in jeopardy?

“I notice he was looking at me a little funny,” Sawyer said, smiling. “I don’t know if he felt threatened or not. I think he’ll be OK for now.”

The Panthers have played 24 games this season, 10 of which have gone into overtime. Their winless streak was extended to eight games Sunday, but they are 0-1-5-2 in that time.

Sunday, Duck officials announced the 13,254 tickets sold as the attendance at the Arrowhead Pond during the third period.
