From Times Staff Reports

A Fillmore man was shot in the arm late Monday and detectives were investigating whether it was retaliation for a weekend stabbing that involved rival gang members, authorities said.

Emanuel Reyes, 21, was walking from his house to his car in the 700 block of 2nd Street when four men in hooded sweatshirts walked up to him about 10:45 p.m. and asked him about his gang ties, authorities said.

After Reyes told the group he was not a gang member, one of the men shot at him several times before the group fled in a car, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ernie Montagna.

Reyes was treated at a Ventura hospital and later released. Authorities said the assailants remained at-large.

Early Saturday, an Oxnard man was stabbed in the chest and his friend stabbed in the leg during a gang brawl on Old Telephone Road in Fillmore.

Both men survived and the case also remains under investigation.
