Nepal’s mainstream political parties said they would meet today to work out a common strategy after King Gyanendra dismissed the prime minister and took executive power.

Ousted Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said his sudden dismissal Friday was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

About 2,000 people rallied near the palace in Katmandu to back Gyanendra’s decision to take over the government “for the time being.”
