Chicago Bear wide receiver David Terrell will be out two months after having surgery Thursday to repair a broken bone in his right foot. Doctors inserted a screw in the foot, and Coach Dick Jauron said there were no problems with the surgery.

“We anticipate it will be seven to eight weeks,” Jauron said. “He’ll be monitored obviously through the whole rehab. If he heals significantly faster, maybe we’ll get him back sooner.”

If not, Terrell won’t be back on the field until Nov. 24 or Dec. 1. That’s a lot of time for a second-year player to miss.

Especially when the flamboyant receiver was just starting to hit his stride. The Bears’ top pick in the 2001 draft has nine catches for 127 yards this year, three for touchdowns.

He had his best game Monday, catching three passes for 77 yards in the 34-21 loss to Green Bay.

With Michael Vick unable to finish practice Thursday, Coach Dan Reeves selected Doug Johnson as the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons’ game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Vick was optimistic after receiving treatment on his sprained right shoulder before lunch, but the pain worsened in passing drills. He shut himself down after 45 minutes of the two-hour workout.

“It wasn’t getting any better, so I just quit throwing,” Vick said. “It was starting to feel less stiff as practice wore on, but it kind of got sore again. I’m going to give it a night of rest and try to throw tomorrow, but I probably won’t play this weekend.”

Cleveland Brown safety Robert Griffith will be sidelined four to six weeks because of a broken bone in his right shoulder, the latest blow to a secondary that could be missing three starters Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Cornerback Corey Fuller and safety Devin Bush are also nursing injuries.

Griffith initially hurt his shoulder while tackling Tennessee’s Eddie George in Week 3.

He said he underwent his third MRI exam in three weeks on Monday, but nothing unusual was detected. Only after the nine-year veteran had a CT scan performed did doctors discover a hairline fracture in his shoulder.

Defensive end Carlos Hall, the Tennessee Titans’ first-round draft pick who replaced injured Jevon Kearse as a starter, is expected to miss three weeks after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.

“Fortunately, we will have a bye week, and he will not miss too much time,” Coach Jeff Fisher said. “He potentially will miss two games if he can’t get back after the bye, but he has worked hard.”
