Central Valley political and agricultural leaders say they want Cal State Fresno to be the world leader in water technology.

A water technology institute is being created at the university to address water issues for agriculture and other businesses in the valley.

The International Center for Water Technology would research water issues and provide community water education, testing and certification, leaders said. The institute also would develop new water quality and irrigation technology, said David Spaur, president of the Economic Development Corp. serving Fresno County.
