Green Party Candidates Have a Strong Future
How interesting that Gerald Kamin’s letter (Oct. 11) was printed the day after the vote by Democrats and Republicans alike to grant President Bush the unconstitutional power to launch a preemptive strike against Iraq. When he blames Greens for Bush, Kamin doesn’t seem to remember that thousands of African Americans were illegally purged from the voter rolls in Florida and that Al Gore did not even inspire his own state of Tennessee to vote for him.
Regarding Sen. Paul Wellstone: Ralph Nader, Winona LaDuke, I and many Greens I know are ardent supporters of Wellstone. But we are a political party. We will run candidates. In the last two years the Green Party is the only national political party in the U.S. to gain registered members. And 152 Greens hold local office throughout the U.S.

Kamin writes that the Green Party is “a cancer on progressive politics.” I submit that the Greens are the lead party for progressive politics and that the Democratic Party is the cancer. While claiming progressive thought and being somewhat better than Republicans, the Democrats too often bow to lobbyists and their money. Greens are a solution; it’s the Democrats who are the problem.
