Man Crossing Street Is Fatally Hit by Car
A 23-year-old Oxnard man was fatally struck by a car while crossing a street in a marked crosswalk, police said Thursday.
Jason Houten was hit about 7 p.m. Wednesday while crossing Rose Avenue at Raiders Way, Senior Officer Scott Swenson said. Houten died a short time later at a hospital.
Witnesses said Houten ran into the path of a Chevy Malibu headed south on Rose Avenue. A second car in the northbound lanes also may have hit him, police said.
The driver of the Malibu, a 25-year-old Oxnard man, stopped but the second driver fled, police said.
Anyone with information is urged to call Swenson at 385-7749.
