Brisk sales in the United States helped boost second-quarter earnings at Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co. by 3.3%, the company said. The Tokyo-based company reported net income of $697 million in the second quarter ended Sept. 30. Revenue for the quarter climbed 9.9% to $15.3 billion.

Honda predicted a 13% rise in net income to $3.3 billion in the year ending March 31, 2003.

Still, the firm warned about “fears of a progressing slowdown” in the U.S. economy and intensifying competition in the Japanese market.
