Lean Back-to-School Inventories at Retailers

Share

I am not shedding tears for the major retailers [“Back-to-School Sales Disappoint,” Aug. 21].

Perhaps the key phrase in this story is “lean inventories.” While back-to-school shopping for my grandson, I was unable to locate a decent selection of pants, shirts, shorts or socks in sizes 5, 5 slim and 6. I walked away from Sears and Target and logged off Gap.com, spending far less than I was prepared to part with, simply because they were either sold out of his size or did not carry the size at all.

And this was mid-August, when one would expect to find shelves fully stocked with back-to-school apparel.
