Fire Burns 460 Acres; Arson Probe Underway
- Share via
A forest fire in the Lytle Creek area of San Bernardino County was nearly 30% contained Saturday, authorities said.
About 1,000 firefighters battled the blaze, which had scorched 463 acres. Investigators were searching the area where the fire began for evidence of possible arson.
Sheriff’s detectives were also investigating the death of a man whose badly burned body was found in the forest Friday. An abandoned car also was discovered several hundred yards away.
The U.S. Forest Service does not expect to have the fire contained until Friday, because air turbulence in the canyon prevents the use of water-dropping aircraft.
No injuries had been reported and no structures had been damaged, a spokeswoman said.
