From Times Staff Reports
An Amtrak train struck and killed a man who was trying to cross railroad tracks on his off-road motorcycle in Ventura, authorities said. Witnesses said two men were riding dirt bikes Sunday about 5 p.m. along train tracks near Valentine Road and Victoria Avenue when one either stalled or got stuck.
The operator of the northbound Amtrak train blasted its air horn, but was unable to stop the train, which was traveling 50 mph. The identity of the dead man was not immediately available.
