No Strike, but Not Everything Is Settled

Let’s see if I understand this. The majority of the major league owners voluntarily pay most of their players more than they are worth and then raise the price of tickets and food in their stadiums to cover their mistakes. Then they hire Bud Selig to be the commissioner, a boorish and arrogant man at best, who will be remembered for declaring a tie in the 2002 All-Star game.

After reviewing these facts, most fans blame the players as the cause for all of baseball’s problems. Is that about right?

I enjoyed the 19-1 pasting the Dodgers gave the Diamondbacks. I also noticed the club saved their pitchers late in the game by letting Mark Grace, a first baseman, take the mound. With nothing on the line, a perfect solution. So why didn’t they use the strategy in the All-Star game?
