Exhibits, Model Open at Research Center

Materials & Applications, an architecture and landscape research center, will have a working model of an experimental structure on view as well as two installations opening today and continuing through Sept. 21 at 1619 Silver Lake Blvd., Los Angeles. The exhibits are “Skinn,”a work that links the unconscious mind to architecture and fashion, and “Eclipse,” an outdoor media-scape. * On Saturday, the work of winners of the American Institute of Architects’ student competition for interior design will be on display during Design Meets Los Angeles 2002: Zendurance. Also exhibited will be Japanese-inspired fans created by professional designers that will be auctioned to raise money for the Amie Karen Cancer Fund for Children. * The Echo Park Historical Society presents a two-hour tour of the historic neighborhood starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The walk includes the Baxter stairs, Fellowship Park, Red Hill and the home of architect Harwell Harris.
