Tim Story is the director of “Barbershop,” a comedy set in a South Side Chicago barbershop starring Ice Cube, Eve and Cedric the Entertainer. The film opens Friday.

Final cut: I usually get my hair cut on Saturdays, and I like to go early before the big crowd starts coming in. The barbershop is always a great place to hang out, and Ice Fade City on Slauson Avenue in Inglewood is the main one I like to go to. It’s like ‘Cheers,’ where everybody knows your name. A lot of old guys hang out there, and the conversation can get pretty ridiculous. There are so many barbershops along Crenshaw it’s amazing. There’s the one called Millennium where the whole place is like a Lakers court. The customers wait in “bleachers” and the chairs are in “locker rooms.”

Film buff: I always have to go to the movies on Friday night. And the Bridge over in Westchester is the only place. It’s just awesome. My girl likes to go there early and watch all these kids running around. You see these cliques here and there, and it’s a real reminder of what high school was like. The Inglewood-Westchester area has never had a state-of-the-art theater before, and the sound and the screens are just perfect. Being a movie buff, I have to sit in the middle of the theater, and you can get reserved seats there.

Playin’ around: The best place to go after breakfast and a haircut is the Magic Johnson’s Starbucks over in Ladera Heights, where I get a caramel Frappuccino. That really kicks my day off. It’s like a club over there, with all the guys playing chess and reading the paper. And on Saturday nights it is just crazy over there with the Starbucks and the Magic Johnson’s T.G.I. Friday’s. It’s like going to a football game, with all these barricades and people hanging around their cars.

People watching: One of the things I love to do is hang out on Melrose and just people watch. There is literally every walk of life down there. Guys with girls. Girls with girls. Couples fighting. I look for different kinds of characters that might inspire me. We walk up and down a lot, but the best place to watch folks is Johnny Rockets. You can’t beat it.

Running around: I want to be in shape, and my girlfriend is all about getting me to go to the beach with her. We always go to Playa del Rey and run on the beach. But my best Sunday is when I get to go play golf out at Robinson Ranch in the Santa Clarita Valley. Lots of industry folks play out there. I’ll run into Don Cheadle, Cedric the Entertainer, all sorts of people.
