4 Oaks to Be Removed for Road Improvements
From Staff and Wire Reports
The Los Angeles City Council decided Wednesday to approve a $935,000 road improvement project in Tujunga that will destroy four old oak trees. In the last seven years, 43 accidents have been reported on the curvy roadway.
The project will widen and realign the intersection of Honolulu Avenue, Tujunga Canyon Boulevard and La Tuna Canyon Road, near the Foothill Freeway. Thirty-four oaks will be planted nearby to offset the removal of the four trees.
City law protecting oaks allows trees to be removed if they interfere with road improvements.
