Dynegy Halts Reports on Natural Gas Prices

Dynegy Inc. has suspended reporting prices for natural gas to industry publications after discovering some employees had provided inaccurate information for surveys used to compile benchmark indexes.
Such indexes are used as a base for trading agreements between companies or as part of the accounting system to determine earnings. Federal regulators are investigating whether the price of natural gas sold in California was manipulated during the state’s energy crisis in 2000 and 2001.
“We are in the process of reestablishing the company’s practices for providing price information to energy industry publications,” said Dynegy spokesman John Sousa.
