Kashmir Talks Offer Is Deception, Militant Says

A day after Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee offered to talk with Pakistan about the disputed region of Kashmir, the largest guerrilla group in the area said the offer was nothing but a deception.
“We believe that Vajpayee’s offer is a deception to gain time to crush the freedom movement in Indian-occupied Kashmir,” said Salim Hashmi, a spokesman for Hezb-ul Mujahedeen, in Islamabad. Pakistani Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali, however, said he welcomed the offer of talks.
