Opponent: New York Yankees

Schedule: Tuesday, 7 p.m.; Wednesday, 7 p.m.; Thursday, 7 p.m.

Site: Edison Field.

Matchup: Is the mystique gone? Are the storied Yankees just another American League competitor, now that the Angels have beaten them in a playoff series? The Yankees return to what they may consider the Unhappiest Place on Earth, where the Angels clinched victory in the American League division series with a 9-5 triumph in Game 4. The Angels batted .376 against Yankee pitching, best ever in a postseason series. Hot-hitting Alfonso Soriano and Jorge Posada, who have sparked the Yankees to a strong start, will look to turn the tables on the Angels.

Opponent: Boston Red Sox

Schedule: Friday, 7 p.m., Saturday, 7 p.m., Sunday, 5 p.m.

Site: Edison Field.

Matchup: Pedro Martinez appears to have returned to form after a shaky start in which he surrendered a career-high 10 runs -- all earned -- against Baltimore in the Red Sox’s home opener. Kevin Millar, who already has cobbled together a 12-game hitting streak, and Shea Hillenbrand, among the American League leaders in runs batted in, lead Boston’s attack. The Red Sox will surely try to trump whatever success the division rival Yankees attain against the Angels after having fallen short yet again last season in the race against their longtime nemeses.
