The driver of a shuttle carrying 14 Port of Hueneme workers was killed Wednesday when he broadsided a produce truck that apparently ran a red light in Oxnard, authorities said.

The shuttle driver was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected through a side door of the van and thrown about 60 feet, said Oxnard Police Officer Scott Swenson. The man’s name was not released, pending notification of relatives. No passengers were injured, Swenson said.

The truck driver, Dorio Campos, 63, of Oxnard, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and released pending further investigation, Swenson said. The truck is owned by Bud of California vegetable distributors, Swenson said.

The van, owned by Oxnard-based Pacific Vehicle Processors, was traveling south on Edison Drive about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday when the produce truck, going east on Hueneme Road, appeared to run a red light, Swenson said. The van plowed into the side of the truck, and the impact spun the van almost completely around, he said.

Pacific Vehicle Processors picks up new cars from ships at the Port of Hueneme and delivers them to dealers.
