Let Guest do what Guest does best

Share

IN her review of Christopher Guest’s film “A Mighty Wind” (“Mockument to the Past,” April 16), Manohla Dargis wrote that one can only wonder “what Guest could achieve if he ditched the mock documentary. Even now it’s difficult to know if he has any real visual talent or how to gauge his chops.”

She’s only showing your readers that she hasn’t done her homework. “The Big Picture” from 1989, directed by Guest and starring Kevin Bacon, was a traditional, very funny, smart, three-act film.

But if the man who directed “Waiting for Guffman” (I’ve never laughed so hard in my life), “Best in Show” and “A Mighty Wind” wants to stick with mockumentaries, when no one else is even in the same neighborhood with him of left-field hilarity, I say good for him and lucky us.
