A San Jose man who disappeared Monday during a desert hike was found injured Friday, authorities said.

Searchers hauled Marvin Matsumoto, 60, out of a deep crevice in a jumble of boulders and hoisted him into a helicopter for a flight to a hospital. The extent of his injuries was not known, said a National Park Service spokeswoman.

Matsumoto was found about 2:30 p.m. by a search team in a remote section of the park, not far from where he had disappeared, the spokeswoman said.

He was hiking with his 16-year-old son, Mark, when they split up near Barker Dam on a one-mile loop trail. The father was reported missing when he did not arrive at the pair’s prearranged meeting place.

He was found in an area known as Wonderland of Rocks. About 150 rangers and trained volunteers, some on horseback, searched for Matsumoto, who was wearing only jeans and a T-shirt when he disappeared.
