Corona Clique Still on a Roll

Corona Clique made it four wins in five starts and was the fastest qualifier Friday night for the upcoming American Airlines California Challenge.

Owned by Vinewood Farms and trained by Mike Howell, the 2-year-old Corona Cartel filly won her trial in 17.61 seconds under jockey Eddie Garcia.

Her only loss came when she was fourth as the 3-5 favorite in the Kindergarten Futurity on May 17.

The other eight qualifiers for the Aug. 29 Juvenile Challenge are Metallic Lion, Runnin In Traffic, Willie Works, Sometimes You Win, Dorothy Nell, Traffic Maze, Harleys Comet and Cuervo Max. A Very Kool Chick and Eyell Fool Ya finished in a dead heat for third in the first trial and a shake will be held today to determine the 10th finalist.

Shots in the dark: French Open won nicely last time out and could come right back in the seventh. Willie Awesome could make amends with a quick takeoff in the eighth.
