Giant Shutout for Vazquez

The Montreal Expos showed their former manager no mercy with a historic sweep.

Javier Vazquez pitched a three-hitter for his first shutout in nearly two years as the Montreal Expos completed a season sweep of the San Francisco Giants with a 4-0 win Monday at Montreal.

San Francisco finished 0-7 against Montreal overall, the first time in the franchise’s 121-year history that it was swept in a season series involving more than three games.

The Giants, who went 0-3 against Texas in 1999, still lead the National League West by 8 1/2 games over Arizona despite a season-high, six-game losing streak.

Vazquez (11-8) struck out seven and walked three for his sixth career shutout -- his first since Aug. 28, 2001. He won for the fifth time in seven starts, pitching his third complete game over that span.

New York 8, Colorado 0 -- Steve Trachsel pitched his third career one-hitter, giving up only a sixth-inning double to pitcher Chin-Hui Tsao, at New York. New York won its sixth straight and completed a sweep of the four-game series.

Trachsel (12-7) retired the first 17 batters before Tsao lined a ball over center fielder Timo Perez’s head for a two-out double. Tsao was 0 for 8 in his career before the hit.

Atlanta 6, Arizona 1 -- Mike Hampton won his eighth in a row, giving up only four hits in eight innings, and Robert Fick had three RBIs for the Braves at Atlanta.

Marcus Giles homered and drove in two runs, and Gary Sheffield extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a homer for Atlanta.

Hampton (11-5) is 8-0 over his last nine starts. He has given up only 12 hits and three earned runs in 25 innings over his last three starts.
