A taste of this ‘n’ that
Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, folk singers, sophisticated instrumentalists, music educators and family entertainers from Maryland, haven’t skipped a beat since they began performing together in 1983.
The National Public Radio favorites and five-time Grammy nominees, who made a rare Southland appearance last year, return this weekend for another high-energy, participatory concert of topical and wacky songs in free shows at the Getty Center’s Central Garden.
Known for their good-for-you themes, musical variety and comic, kid-savvy lyrics, Fink and Marxer will serve up tunes from their critically acclaimed CDs, including their most recent, “Bon Appetit!,” a banquet of songs about food and nutrition. Look for a spur to culinary exploration (“A Little Taste of This, A Little Taste of That”), a recipe for “Big Strong Muscles” and an antidote for couch potato-itis called “Hula Hoop” (“All the grannies in the city are hoopin’ to the ditty ...”).
