A South Pasadena High School student who allegedly shot and critically injured a La Canada High School football player at an after-prom party will stand trial as an adult, a judge ruled Friday.

Pasadena Juvenile Judge Candace J. Beason determined that the 17-year-old youth was unfit to serve as a juvenile, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

The student, who is being held, is charged with one count of attempted murder, assault with a firearm and possession of a concealable pistol by a minor. The shooting occurred at a party attended by more than 100 people.

Gibbons said the teenager’s name would not be released until he is charged as an adult, probably sometime next week.

The fight’s origins date to a year ago when students from the two rival schools feuded at another off-campus party, witnesses told The Times.

When some of the same students attended a party at a home in La Canada Flintridge on May 25, another brawl erupted, this time resulting in the shooting injury of Thomas Johnson-Blasucci, 18, a lineman on the varsity football team.
