Wright-designed gas station to be built in N.Y.
In 1927, Frank Lloyd Wright designed a gas station in Buffalo, N.Y. It’s finally about to be built.
The station wasn’t built because the famed architect got into a dispute with its owner, according to some views.
Others hold that the Buffalo fire marshal wasn’t wild about the safety aspects of Wright’s vision for gravity-fed gasoline tanks and refused permission to build it.
To be sure, it’s not typical: The design features two fireplaces and a second-floor observation deck. The $2 million to build it is coming from private funds and a tourism grant from New York.
