Terminal’s future is up in the air

In last year’s Steven Spielberg movie, “Catch Me if You Can,” the TWA terminal at JFK airport served as the stylish backdrop for Leonardo Di Caprio’s flimflam.

Now, preservationists are fighting the property owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, over the building’s future, arguing that development of a new Jet Blue Airways terminal will destroy the modernist masterwork by Eero Saarinen.

The proposed semi-circular terminal will wrap around the existing building and destroy the integrity of the designated New York landmark, said Frank Sanchis, executive director of the Municipal Art Society of New York.
