321-Year-Old Oak Among Heat Casualties
From Times Wire Reports
A heat wave this month killed hundreds of thousands of trees, including Marie Antoinette’s favorite oak at the Palace of Versailles, forestry experts said.
Temperatures topping 104 decimated forests in combination with a lack of water and insect plagues, they said, and fires destroyed an estimated 91,500 acres.
The best-known casualty is the 90-foot, 321-year-old oak at Versailles.
