A security guard was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head after apparently committing suicide inside United Nations headquarters, police said. Security chief Michael McCann told reporters that the incident was the first of its kind inside the U.N. complex.

Michael Holton’s body was found in a lounge after he did not return from a break, McCann said. Holton, 41, of West Sayville, N.Y., was a 16-year veteran of the U.N. security staff. A police source said the gunshot was believed to be self-inflicted.
