Judge, 64, Says Health Precludes New Term
Marin County Superior Court Judge William McGivern won’t run for a second six-year term.
The 64-year-old jurist said this week that a medical checkup convinced him it was time to quit.
“As the result of a medical examination, I’ve decided that I won’t be seeking reelection,” McGivern said. “That’s all I have to say.”
Last month, McGivern said he planned to take a neurological exam as a result of a workers’ compensation claim filed by his court reporter.
The claim suggested that McGivern might be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
San Rafael attorney Jack Gibson was McGivern’s only challenger for the seat on the Marin County bench. “I’m very, very surprised by it,” Gibson said.
