What was Charlie Carr thinking (“In the Name of the Duke,” by Patti Paniccia, Nov. 16)? Did the man who owns trademark rights to the name of Hawaiian surf pioneer Duke Kahanamoku really believe that he would be welcomed in Hawaii with open arms? I grew up there and knew Duke and his wife Nadine very well. I also belonged to the Outrigger Canoe Club. What a sad state of affairs to have a commercial tug of war, which tends to diminish the name of such an extraordinary man.
