$9.5 Million Allocated for Fire Debris Cleanup
- Share via
The county Board of Supervisors voted 5 to 0 Tuesday to allocate $9.5 million to clean up the massive debris left by the Cedar and Paradise fires. “Fire areas are already troubled by rats and other rodents on the hunt for food,” said Supervisor Bill Horn.
County officials said they are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to have the county reimbursed. A week ago supervisors voted 3 to 2 to delay allocating any money for debris cleanup, citing the county’s tight budget.
Health officials had warned about toxicity from household hazardous waste, toxic ash and asbestos in the rubble.
The allocation also will be for erosion control.
