Army Is Right Fit for Ross

Bobby Ross, 66, who resigned as the coach of the Detroit Lions three years ago, was hired Tuesday as Army’s coach.

Ross said he made the decision to come out of retirement because “you get tired of walking the dog and things of that nature.... I’ve got a lot of energy.”

Ross will need it. The Black Knights finished 0-13.

Louisiana State Coach Nick Saban, whose current deal pays him $1.6 million, could earn a substantial raise if the Tigers beat Oklahoma. A clause in his contract guarantees that Saban will earn at least $1 more than the current highest-paid coach if LSU wins the national title. That coach is Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops, whose package guarantees him $2.5 million.
