Coach Gary Williams finally pushed his win total at Maryland from 299 to 300. That wasn’t the only number that will need adjusting after Wednesday night’s game.

The Terrapins (5-2) helped Williams reach his milestone with a 69-68 overtime victory over No. 1 Florida, handing the Gators the loss in their first game after reaching the top spot in the Associated Press poll.

Travis Garrison made a jump shot with 18 seconds left for the winning points in a brutish, defensive, ugly game -- but one that felt pretty good to Williams nonetheless.

“We haven’t been consistent, but somehow we found the toughness to go out there and play tonight,” Williams said.

The loss for Florida (5-1) all but guaranteed that there will be a new top-ranked team for the fourth consecutive week; the Gators will join Connecticut and Kansas as the latest to fail to hold on to No. 1.

Louisville 80, Seton Hall 71 -- Louisville sophomore Francisco Garcia, playing the day after learning his brother had been killed in a shooting, matched his career-high with 24 points.

Garcia stood before the game at Louisville, Ky., with his head bowed and eyes closed as the capacity crowd honored his brother with a moment of silence. Garcia’s brother, Hector Lopez, was fatally shot in the Bronx, N.Y., where Garcia’s family moved six years ago from the Dominican Republic.

No. 5 Kansas 80, Fort Hays State 40 -- Freshman David Padgett had 19 points and the Jayhawks (4-1) won at Lawrence, Kan., in their first game since a loss to Stanford last weekend dropped them out of the No. 1 ranking.

Ryan Shriver had 12 points for Division II Fort Hays (4-1), which was outrebounded, 58-25, committed 18 turnovers and had 10 shots blocked.

No. 23 Wisconsin 73, Wisconsin Green Bay 57 -- Devin Harris scored 18 points and Freddie Owens added 16 for the Badgers (5-1), who ended the game on a 15-5 run to win their 17th in a row at Madison, Wis.

Indiana 66, Notre Dame 63 -- Bracey Wright scored 19 points, Sean Kline matched his career-high with 12 points and Indiana managed to avoid any long scoring droughts to beat Notre Dame at South Bend, Ind.

It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Hoosiers over the Fighting Irish.

The Irish (2-3), who lost their third in a row, had a chance to tie the score, but a three-point basket by Colin Falls with two seconds left hit the rim and fell short as the Hoosiers (3-3) ended a two-game losing streak.

WOMEN

No. 14 Oklahoma 90, Montana State 59 -- Caton Hill of Oklahoma scored a season-high 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds at Bozeman, Mont. Lauren Shoush added a career-high 18 points and Maria Villarroel had 15 for the Sooners (7-0), who led at halftime, 52-25. Oklahoma made a season-high 11 three-point baskets, including four each by Hill and Shoush. Kati Burrows had 15 points for the Bobcats (5-3).

George Washington 76, No. 23 Boston College 75 -- Marsheik Witherspoon’s driving layup with 10 seconds left in overtime gave George Washington the home victory. The basket was Witherspoon’s second of the game.

The Colonials (4-2) looked as if they had the game locked up when they led, 62-49, with 6:22 left in regulation. But the Eagles (7-1) outscored George Washington, 18-5, and forced the overtime on a jump shot at the buzzer by Maureen Leary.
