2-Year-Olds to Vie for the Consolation Prize

Before the main event, the $1,367,650 Los Alamitos Million, 10 2-year-olds who didn’t qualify for the final will race in the $25,000 Futurity Consolation.

Trainer Paul Jones will saddle three horses in the 400-yard race -- Brookstone Bay, Rubys Jp and Ocean Cartel.

Owned by Richard Chad, Brookstone Bay, a son of First Down Dash, won his trial for the Million, but his final time of 19.76 seconds wasn’t among the 10 fastest, so he’ll have to settle for trying to win the Consolation. Raul Sanchez rides.

Rubys Jp also won a trial in his first start at Los Alamitos in nearly seven months, and Ocean Cartel has won four of nine and has earned more than $107,000.

Shots in the dark: Quick Laughter was off slowly in her debut and could improve second time out in the fifth. Rare Rollick could benefit from his previous in the 10th.
