Bill Guerin and Marty Turco made sure the Dallas Stars’ losing streak wouldn’t last any longer.

Guerin scored with 5:41 to play Friday night at Dallas and Turco made 16 saves for his 14th career shutout to help the Stars end their losing streak at five with a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Guerin skated hard to the net and redirected Mike Modano’s pass from the right corner for his 16th goal. It was the difference in what had been a goaltenders’ duel between Turco and Steve Passmore.

Dallas’ losing streak was its longest in eight years.

“Both teams were desperate,” said Guerin, who has 13 goals at home.

“It was one of those games where you need nothing but a win. We have to continue to play with that mentality the rest of the year.”

The Blackhawks pulled Passmore for an extra attacker with 1:02 left, then had a six-on-four advantage after being given a power play with 38 seconds left. But Chicago, which beat Detroit on Thursday night to end a winless streak at 15, was unable to put pressure on Turco.

The Stars returned home after going 0-4 during a West Coast trip. During the losing streak, they scored only three goals. Dallas is 9-4-2 at home, 3-11-1 on the road.
