A small plane crashed into a house Sunday afternoon, killing the pilot and destroying the home, authorities said.
The family inside the house escaped without injury, said Cheryl Sims, a supervising dispatcher for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The twin-engine Cessna crashed about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of La Paz and Monterey drives in Claremont, authorities said.
The pilot was believed to be the only one on the plane, which was trying to make an emergency landing at Cable Airport in Upland, said Lt. Gary Jenkins of the Claremont Police Department.
The identity of the pilot was not released pending notification of next of kin, authorities said.
