Mourning Released

From Associated Press

Former All-Star center Alonzo Mourning was released Tuesday from the hospital where he received a kidney donated by his cousin.

Mourning said he was in “a lot of pain” as he left New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.

Mourning was joined by the cousin, Jason Cooper, who hadn’t seen the basketball player in several years before volunteering to give Mourning one of his kidneys.

“Jason was definitely God-sent,” Mourning said. “I’m very grateful. Words can’t even be enough to explain how I feel.”

Mourning, 33, retired from the New Jersey Nets on Nov. 24 because of complications from kidney disease.
