A residential fire in Santa Paula on Christmas morning destroyed one home and forced evacuated neighbors out into the rain.

No one was injured in the fire, which was contained to a single-story structure in the 300 block of Acacia Street.

The house’s sole occupant, an unidentified woman, was taken to Ventura County Medical Center complaining of respiratory problems.

According to the Santa Paula Fire Department, the woman had called 911 from a neighbor’s home because she was having difficulty breathing.

When firefighters arrived about 11 a.m., they saw that the woman’s nearby home was on fire, said Fire Capt. John Harber. Neighbors who lived near the smoldering home were evacuated for at least two hours.

Eight fire engines from four departments around the county responded to the blaze, which kept firefighters busy for several hours.

The fire caused about $200,000 in structural damage, officials said.

Harber said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
