Everyone Gets More Bang for Buccaneers

Share

Hey, Al Davis,

I’m sure you heard of the “Curse of the Bambino” and the Red Sox have never won another championship since Babe Ruth was traded. What you have is the “Curse of Marcus Allen.” Never bench a hall-of-fame running back.

I hope you learned your lesson.

The only thing that looked good in silver and black at the Super Bowl was Shania Twain.

Wow, Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl, 48-21. Even in Florida they can’t mess up counting the outcome of that contest.

Everyone is trying to find an answer for the Raiders’ debacle. The answer is simple, coaching. The Raiders did not have a plan B when plan A did not work. Good coaches go by the book, great coaches write a chapter in the book.

There is a saying, “You dance with who brung you” but if that partner abandons you, find a new one. When the short pass abandoned them, the Raiders should have used the offensive line to pound on the Buccaneers, keep the ball a little longer and give their defense a little more rest.

Next time, “just run baby.”

Tampa Bay Coach Jon Gruden may feel justifiably proud of the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl victory, but it should be borne in mind he won with a team built by Tony Dungy.

Had an average defensive unit been on the field, it might have been a different story. Tony Dungy owns a piece of that Lombardi Trophy.

From almost any perspective, Super Bowl XXXVII was a glorious success.

Because of the recession and the Enron scandals, corporate America cut back on its expenses, there were no O.J. sightings in San Diego, T.J. Simers’ daughter got a date with a UCLA student, and the Raiders got pummeled. I can hardly wait until next year.

Why was the media so hyped up about “scary” Raider fans in San Diego? Those weren’t true Raider fans down there, they were rich corporate sponsors spending thousands of dollars. The real fans couldn’t afford a ticket, everyone knows that. Why do you think they rioted? (Just kidding about that last part.)

I watched the Super Bowl and think I must have missed something. Which other nations took part in order for the Buccaneers to be designated as the “World Champions”?

What a glorious 51 weeks it has been for Los Angeles sports.

Let’s recap: The Lakers three-peat, the Angels finally break through and win the World Series, the Sparks win the championship, the Galaxy wins the championship, USC wins the Heisman and comes very close to a championship, and finally ... both the Rams and Raiders lose in the Super Bowl.

It doesn’t get any better than this.

Look on the positive side, Raider fans. At least you didn’t lose as a result of a bad call.

Now that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won it all, I look forward to many insightful columns from Diane Pucin and Bill Plaschke explaining how, in actuality, the USC Trojans deserve to be named Super Bowl champions.
