Storr’s Streak Ends, but He Picks Up a Win

Share

Goaltender Jamie Storr’s shutout streak ended Wednesday when he gave up a first-period goal to Phoenix’s Ramzi Abid.

But don’t think the Kings are complaining.

Storr, who had not allowed a goal in more than five periods, was good when he had to be against the Coyotes, especially in the second period when he stuffed several close-range shots to keep the Kings ahead, 2-1. After sitting behind starter Felix Potvin for almost three seasons, Storr is getting his chance with Potvin on the injured list because of a knee injury.

“It’s just a great opportunity for him,” Coach Andy Murray said about Storr, who made 31 saves in the Kings’ 4-3 victory over Phoenix. “He’s been waiting a long time for this. I’ve tried not to talk to him and put too much pressure on him.

“I’m not worried about Jamie. [Goaltending consultant] Andy [Nowicki] does a great job, and I know that they’ve talked about it. Jamie is pretty cool and I know that he’s confident in his ability.”

Enforcer Ryan Flinn, recalled from Manchester of the American Hockey League on Tuesday, needed only 3:38 to get into his first fight when he and Phoenix winger Andrei Nazarov battled to a draw. Flinn, who had four points and 95 penalty minutes in 25 games for Manchester, became a fan favorite because of his aggressive style last season in 10 games with the Kings.
