Spurs’ Ginobili Makes Most of Only Basket

Manu Ginobili made a go-ahead three-point basket with 42 seconds left in overtime -- his only field goal of the game -- and the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Trail Blazers, 116-111, Tuesday night at Portland, Ore.

Ginobili’s shot came on the Spurs’ third chance during that possession. San Antonio was able to grab two offensive rebounds to keep the possession alive, even though Portland contended Tim Duncan committed an over-the-back foul on one of them.

Duncan had 36 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Spurs, who won their sixth in a row. Rasheed Wallace scored 25 points to lead the Trail Blazers, who had a four-game winning streak ended.

Minnesota 100, Dallas 98 -- Wally Szczerbiak made a corner jumper at the buzzer at Minneapolis to rescue the Timberwolves, who had squandered a 17-point third-quarter lead.

Dirk Nowitzki had 34 points and Michael Finley had all 21 of his points in the second half for Dallas, which had its four-game road winning streak ended.

Sacramento 99, Washington 80 -- Peja Stojakovic had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and the Kings opened a seven-game homestand with little trouble.

Sacramento jumped to a 25-point lead in the third quarter and defeated Washington at Arco Arena for the fifth consecutive time.

Boston 82, Seattle 76 -- Antoine Walker had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and the Celtics let a 23-point lead in the third quarter slip away before hanging on at Seattle.

Utah 103, Houston 101 -- Karl Malone scored 33 points, including 14 in a fourth-quarter comeback, and the Jazz rallied in overtime at Houston.

Steve Francis led Houston with 28 points and Yao Ming had 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Detroit 89, Chicago 79 -- Ben Wallace followed up his busy All-Star weekend with 22 rebounds, and Chauncey Billups scored 20 points to give the Pistons their fifth consecutive victory.

Chicago lost at home for the first time since Jan. 2, ending a five-game winning streak at United Center.

Indiana 107, Cleveland 96 -- Jermaine O’Neal scored 28 points and Brad Miller had 25 at Indianapolis, and the Pacers started the second half of the season with Ron Artest back in the lineup and Coach Isiah Thomas on the bench.

Artest had completed a four-game suspension and Thomas had served a two-game suspension. Artest scored 11 points.

Orlando 92, New Jersey 83 -- Tracy McGrady had 32 points and eight rebounds, and the Magic withstood a late rally by the Nets at Orlando, Fla.

The Nets used a 16-6 run to pull to within 83-81 with 1:40 to play.

Golden State 116, Atlanta 113 -- Gilbert Arenas scored a career-high 37 points and made a key steal and layup with 20 seconds left to lift the Warriors at Atlanta.

The Warriors (22-27) surpassed their win total from last season.

New Orleans 78, Miami 69 -- Jamal Mashburn, who averaged 31.7 points in his previous three games, finished with 15 points at Miami, leading the Hornets to their third consecutive victory.
