City Considers Citing Samuelian for Loitering

From Staff and Wire Reports

Assembly Republicans heard Wednesday from Assemblyman Steve Samuelian (R-Clovis), but did not ask for the resignation of the lawmaker against whom Fresno police have recommended a loitering charge.

Police stopped Samuelian on Feb. 1 for cruising a motel-lined Fresno street known for prostitution. Samuelian told officers he got lost trying to find the local farm bureau. Police later discovered that in 1998, before he was elected, Samuelian was cited for loitering for the purpose of soliciting sex on the same street. The city attorney is now considering citing Samuelian again.

On Monday, five prominent Central Valley Republicans, including Rep. George Radanovich (R-Mariposa), called for Samuelian’s resignation.
