1 Dies, 2 Hurt as SUV Drives Onto Sidewalk
A 55-year-old woman drove her sport utility vehicle onto a sidewalk outside a bank Monday, hitting three people, including an 8-year-old boy who died of his injuries.
Detectives were trying to determine whether a mechanical problem caused Parivash Rahnamai to drive onto the sidewalk. She was not immediately arrested.
The vehicle struck the boy as he walked holding hands with his father outside a Washington Mutual branch in the Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood, witnesses said.
The boy, whose name was withheld by authorities, and a 39-year-old man were thrown into a window. A 42-year-old woman also was injured. The adults’ names also were not immediately released.
