Speeding Motorcyclist Hits Truck, Dies
A motorcyclist traveling more than 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway in Seal Beach was killed early Thursday when he rear-ended a big rig, authorities said.
Lucio Jimenez, 37, of Garden Grove was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
Jimenez was northbound on the freeway when “for an unknown reason he failed to see” the big rig in the same lane directly ahead, the spokesman said. Jimenez struck the back of the tractor-trailer and was thrown to the pavement. The truck driver was not injured.
An investigation was continuing. Officials are awaiting an autopsy by the coroner’s office to determine whether Jiminez was under the influence.
