Penalties Anger Murray

Share

Much to Coach Andy Murray’s dismay, the Kings lead the NHL in bench-minor penalties for too many players on the ice, a dubious distinction they enhanced with two more infractions Thursday night.

“Ridiculous, just ridiculous,” Murray said Friday of penalties that were the result of Mikko Eloranta and Joe Corvo mistakenly jumping onto the ice. “I called our captains in today and said, ‘Guys, what do we do? Do we fine guys?’ Obviously, it makes the coach look bad. I’m not worried about that. It’s embarrassing for our team....

“You’re going to get some penalties where you jump too early and you touch the puck. You’ve got to deal with those. But these ones that are inexcusable, do we fine the guys 500 bucks? We’re limited in what we can do.

“So the guys made a decision. They’re going to control it internally. They guarantee it’s not going to happen again.”

And if it does, someone will pay.
