Deadmarsh Is Not Sure When He Will Return

Times Staff Writer

The Kings' leading goal scorer, suffering from post-concussion symptoms, has not played in 15 of the team's last 20 games. He's not sure when he'll play again.

"I don't have any answers of when I'm going to be better, when I'm going to be ready," Adam Deadmarsh said Wednesday. "I just don't know....

"Obviously, it's taken longer than I would have hoped. Am I concerned long term? No. But I don't know why it's taking so long. No one does. There are no answers when it comes to these kind of things."

Deadmarsh, who leads the Kings with 13 goals in 20 games, has not played since Dec. 15, when he was kneed in the head by a teammate during the Kings' 2-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes. The veteran winger is one of eight injured Kings who will sit out tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers at Staples Center.

Sidelined for nine games after suffering a concussion Nov. 12 at Toronto, he returned to the lineup Dec. 7 and scored four goals in five games.

"I think I was healed," said Deadmarsh, who has returned to practice but has not been cleared for contact. "But I got hit again pretty hard [at Phoenix] and it set me back again, so now I'm trying to get over that....

"I just can't get over that last hump."

Jason Allison, who has sat out three games because of a knee injury, said it was "definitely possible" that he would play next week, but added, "The doctor's pretty vague about the timeframe." ... Coach Andy Murray was undecided about benching No. 1 goaltender Felix Potvin. "We'll think about it overnight," he said.
