Man Dies in Crash on Ventura Freeway
A 71-year-old Ventura man died Friday after losing control of his pickup truck on the Ventura Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man, Gerald Hughes, was driving north when he lost control near Central Avenue.
Hughes was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, authorities said. The cause of death was unclear because authorities believe he might have had a preexisting medical condition.
The crash backed up traffic on the freeway for several miles.
