2 Brown Pelicans Found Shot Dead in 2 Weeks
From Times Wire Reports
Two California brown pelicans have been found fatally shot during the last two weeks, one near San Jose and another in San Francisco Bay, said Jay Holcomb, director of the International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia.
One of the pelicans was found alive and later died, but rescue workers were able to retrieve the bullet from its body.
At least 14 have been killed in the last month in Southern California.
California brown pelicans are endangered, with about 5,000 mating pairs left.
