West Fresno Elementary Takeover Bill Advances
From Times Wire Reports
The Assembly approved a bill authorizing a takeover of the financially troubled West Fresno Elementary School District.
The bill will strip the school board of its powers and hand daily operations of the 1,000-student district to an administrator appointed by the state superintendent.
The bill also includes a $2-million state loan to help put the district’s finances back in order. Auditors say West Fresno’s debt could reach $2.3 million by the end of the fiscal year in June.
